When my father passed during Covid there was this collective sorrow. The world came to a halt…or some people had to. My mum would have wanted me to continue with my performances, my passion, my purpose. Grief is not linear. Everyone was so friendly and glamorous ✨ Another superbly executed event by @trunkevents At some point the DJ came up to me and said “ wow I have never heard Afrobeats and Hip Hop on strings before!” I think we sometimes forget that what sounds old to us might be completely new to others. Also strings blend really well with any form of electronic music because you use it as a pad/virtual instrument or lead. Thanks to our disco 🕺🏿 and funk 🪩 predecessors who started doing that in the 70’s. This week social media has been flooded with commentary about a certain person at #cannes Which naturally inspired the internet’s favourite Olympic sport: discussing women’s bodies. I grew up in a patriarchal society where women’s appearances were analysed NON STOP. Diet culture 24/7. “Flattering“ and “She has a pretty face though.” And then add the entertainment industry on top of that… where you’re expected to be talented, graceful, skinny, glowing, youthful, effortless and somehow also pretend you “don’t care.” Exhausting. Yes, beauty can absolutely be physical. We are visual creatures. But we are also human beings, not robots. No matter what you look like, someone will STILL have something to post.
